I started volunteering with Forever Stars around 10 years ago after my friends Julie and her wife Heather sadly lost their little girl, Alexandra, at full term. Seeing the support Forever Stars gave them during such a heartbreaking time really showed me how important the charity is for families going through baby loss.
At the time, I was running a public house, so I decided to start fundraising to help Forever Stars continue supporting other families and to help them provide even more care and resources to those who need it most.
Over the years, my volunteering has grown, and I now help with some of the different clubs and workshops Forever Stars runs for families, including craft clubs and Sip & Paint sessions. I find these workshops amazing, as they give families a chance to come together, support one another, and build friendships with people who truly understand. It’s lovely to see such a strong sense of community and family being created through these events.
What I enjoy most about volunteering is knowing that even the smallest thing can make a difference to someone during the hardest time in their life. It’s incredibly rewarding to be part of a charity that brings comfort, understanding, and support to bereaved families.
Forever Stars is important to me because it was there for people I care about deeply, and I’ve seen firsthand the impact the charity has on families.
Being able to give something back and support their work means a lot to me.
One of my favourite things is seeing people come together through fundraising events and workshops, creating lasting connections and supporting each other through their journeys.
