Nelsons, one of the East Midlands’ leading law firms, chose Forever Stars as their Charity of the Year in 2025. Originally starting as a one-year partnership, the business has now extended their commitment for a second year running to ensure more sustainable, impactful support. We spoke to Associate Solicitor, Shrdha Kapoor and Legal Director and Chartered Legal Executive, Carolle White, to find out more about Nelsons’ partnership with Forever Stars.

Why Forever Stars?

The connection began through the firm’s clinical negligence team, who regularly work with families impacted by baby loss. Shrdha was searching online for local support services to recommend to a client who had not been accessing any help when she came across Forever Stars and was struck by how local and impactful the charity was.

Around the same time, Forever Stars appeared on Nelsons’ internal charity nominations shortlist. When Shrdha investigated, she discovered that a colleague had a close family connection to the charity through one of Forever Stars’ volunteers. The dots quickly joined, and Carolle and Shrdha arranged to meet founder Richard Daniels.

That first meeting set the tone for everything that followed. “We both came back from that meeting just buzzing,” recalls Shrdha. “We went around the office telling everyone – make sure you vote for Forever Stars, they’re amazing, we’ve got to support them.” When Forever Stars were announced as the firm’s chosen charity, it felt like the perfect fit.

For the clinical negligence team, the partnership also reflects a deeper philosophy about client care. As Carolle White said: “Part of our role is rehabilitation. It’s not just about getting compensation.  We help clients to access services and support that will make a meaningful difference to their lives and improve outcomes for them” For those client’s affected by baby loss, having a trusted local charity to signpost families to has become an invaluable part of the support Nelsons offer.

The cause is also personal for Shrdha, whose family experienced baby loss, something the family never spoke openly about due to cultural expectations at the time. “I often think how different their experience would have been if they’d had a space like this, a community and a support system,” she reflects. “That’s why it means a lot to me on a personal level.”

How Nelsons is Supporting Forever Stars

Nelsons’ support has been both energetic and wide-ranging, with the whole firm getting behind the cause.

Skydive fundraiser

The standout fundraising moment of this year was a sponsored skydive which Shrdha and Carolle did in April.  Doing a skydive had long been on Shrdha’s personal bucket list. Meeting Richard and the team gave her the push she needed: “If I’m going to do it, do it for this purpose.” Carolle and Shrdha jointly raised approximately £2,777. A remarkable achievement and a testament to how passionately the team and their wider networks feel about Forever Stars.

Regular events and fundraising

Nelsons has established a structured programme of fundraising activity across their three offices, including:

  • A monthly dress-down day and drinks at the office, with Nottingham staff contributing to Forever Stars to take part
  • Quarterly larger events organised by a dedicated cross-office charity team, designed to bring staff together and maximise fundraising.  The team have lots of things in the pipeline!
  • A lunchtime quiz that brings people across the office together

Having Richard speak directly to staff at an event made a transformative difference. “Everybody was super engaged after actually meeting Richard and finding out about the charity and where that money goes,” says Shrdha. “Since then, everyone has been behind all of the fundraising activities because they understand what it’s actually for.”

Collections and Volunteering

The team has also supported Forever Stars’ events through other initiatives, including Christmas events and collections for the Easter egg hunt, with the firm itself making financial contributions alongside staff donations. Earlier this year, a group volunteered at the Serenity Garden, getting to know the charity’s dedicated volunteer community first-hand.

Nelsons was also pleased to host Forever Stars’ Beyond Business event at its Nottingham office in February 2026, offering the firm’s conference facilities for the occasion. Carolle commented: “We were delighted to host an event that brought together a wide range of local Nottingham businesses. It was very well attended and featured a genuinely engaging panel discussion on issues highly relevant to the local business community.” Nelsons further supported the event by providing morning refreshments, including coffee and pastries.

The Impact Within the Firm

The level of engagement across Nelsons has been striking.

The team believe this reflects something deeper: that baby loss touches far more lives than people often realise. When Carolle shared a fundraising link for the skydive on social media, donations came in from people she hadn’t been in contact with for years. “The level of engagement speaks volumes,” she says. “People can connect to this on a personal level, even if they’ve never said so out loud.”

For the clinical negligence team in particular, the partnership has strengthened the support they can offer clients, many of whom they work with over a number of years. Being able to genuinely recommend Forever Stars as a trusted local resource has added another dimension to the holistic care they strive to provide.

Advice for Other Organisations

When asked what they would say to other businesses considering a charity partnership, Shrdha and Carolle’s message is clear: choose something you genuinely care about, and take the time to really get to know the people behind it.

“Because we’re so passionate about it, it doesn’t feel like another job on the to-do list, I really look forward to it.” says Shrdha. “

They also point to the tangible commercial benefits for businesses willing to embrace charity partnerships fully, from social media content and brand visibility, to staff wellbeing and team culture. “If you’re looking at it purely from a commercial perspective and wondering what’s in it for a business, there are real things in it,” says Carolle. “Everyone’s a winner.”

Forever Stars is proud to call Nelsons a corporate partner and is deeply grateful for their commitment, creativity, and compassion. Their support is making a real difference to bereaved families across the East Midlands.
