Forever Stars is an independent, volunteer-run charity that relies heavily on donations. The support from local organisations and businesses plays a vital role in helping us continue our work with baby loss families.
We value the relationships we build with our corporate supporters, ensuring they experience the various benefits that come with partnering with a charity. In this case study, we speak with Natalie Smith, Group Managing Director of PJS Consulting Engineers, to find out more about their ongoing support for Forever Stars.
How did your partnership with Forever Stars begin?
Paul and I first became involved with Forever Stars after witnessing our close friends, Laura and Daniel Barnett – both trustees and active volunteers – experience baby loss. The charity’s support during their difficult time had a profound impact on us. It was evident how passionate Forever Stars is about supporting families experiencing baby loss, a cause that is common yet rarely discussed. We were inspired to support their work in any way we could.
Why Forever Stars?
Forever Stars is a passionate and active charity that does incredible work for families in our community. Their energy and dedication to raising awareness and improving support for families experiencing baby loss is truly inspiring. Over time, we have developed a strong relationship with the charity and are proud to continue supporting such a great team. Through active participation in their events, we have come to know the team members personally and are deeply touched by their empathy and care for families going through difficult times.
How have you supported the charity?
We have supported Forever Stars in various ways, including attending and sponsoring events, making donations, and sponsoring branded t-shirts. Our team has also organised cake sales, with the funds raised being match-funded by us. We strive to help in any way possible, whether through fundraising or raising awareness.
Some of the events we have sponsored include:
- Sponsorship of Forever Stars NFFC Captains Night on 15th July 2022.
- A table of 10 at the Pink and Blue Ball in 2019.
- Sponsorship for the Mark Crossley and Nigel Jemson Night at the Village Hotel on Wednesday, 11th September 2024.
Additionally, we turn our logos pink and blue during Baby Loss Awareness Week. Although these efforts may seem small, we believe that raising awareness and standing in solidarity can make a significant impact.
How has supporting Forever Stars benefitted PJS Consulting Engineers?
Supporting Forever Stars has significantly raised internal awareness about baby loss, fostering an open and supportive workplace. Externally, sharing our involvement has helped increase broader awareness of the issue and encouraged others to speak more openly about their experiences. This has been a meaningful way for our team to give back and contribute to a cause that truly matters. Our Office Manager and I regularly attend Forever Starts business networking events, which we find useful for staying updated on the charity’s work and inspire us with ideas for fundraising.
What advice would you give to other organisations looking to establish similar partnerships?
Choose a local charity that works within your community – it makes the connection feel much more personal. Make the partnership a two-way street: engage with the charity, take part in their events, and build a relationship. That’s what makes it meaningful and long-lasting for you and your team.
Engaging with the charity goes beyond just financial contributions. Actively participating in their events, volunteering your time, and building relationships with the charity’s team members can deepen your connection and commitment. This two-way street approach ensures that both parties benefit from the partnership. The charity gains valuable support and resources, while your business fosters a sense of purpose and community involvement among your team.
