Creating comfort for those impacted by miscarriage
Miscarriage is the most common kind of pregnancy loss, affecting around one in four pregnancies. Despite its prevalence, the emotional toll it takes on families often goes unspoken, leading to a silent suffering that many endure. At Forever Stars, we recognise the need to address this sensitive issue and provide essential support to those affected by miscarriage.
Our campaign
At Forever Stars we want to provide as much support as possible to support those who experience baby loss. And, to help support those families who experience miscarriage we are proud to launch our ‘Supporting 1 in 4 for 2024’ campaign.
We want to offer comfort and support for those dealing with miscarriage, both during treatment and afterwards.
Ward A23 at the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham serves as a crucial space for families experiencing baby loss before 20 weeks. With approximately 10 families seeking support on this ward each day, A23 plays a pivotal role in providing treatment and emotional assistance during these difficult times.
A23 has a fantastic team that supports families dealing with baby loss. However, the limited funding allocated to A23 primarily caters to essential medical support, leaving the surroundings in need of attention.
A23 is a busy area, often with the feeling of an A&E ward due to the nature of the activities on the ward. We want to create a better environment for families whilst waiting for treatment or a consultation on A23.
We have already started the transformation of two treatment rooms, creating spaces that not only meet clinical requirements but also acknowledge the emotional needs of families going through miscarriage.
But, there is still more to do.
In addition to its vital role in providing medical support, A23 also boasts a garden space that requires a lot of attention. This garden serves as a sanctuary where families deal with the weight of their loss. It serves as a waiting area for fathers, and somewhere for siblings to get fresh air and keep occupied by playing with toys, while the family receives treatment on the ward.
We want to provide a tranquil outdoor space for families that provides comfort and space for reflection. With the necessary investment and design this garden has the potential to become a place where families can find comfort amidst the difficult journey of miscarriage.
Through our campaign we want to raise £50,000 to completely redesign and refit the A23 garden, turning it into a comforting and appropriate space for patients and their families. We also want to refurbish the waiting room, transforming it into a serene environment with points of interest, soothing music, and a relaxing ambiance tailored to the needs of the families awaiting treatment or consultation.
How you can help
This is a big challenge for Forever Stars and something we can’t do alone. We need as many people as possible to join our fundraising efforts to help us to create a truly special environment for the families that need to use the ward.
Your support – big or small – can make a genuine difference to the lives of families across the East Midlands who rely on A23 during their miscarriage journey. If you wish to donate or fundraise for us, please email: enquiries@foreverstars.org
