A local charity that supports bereaved parents of stillborn and early baby loss babies has been selected as the Village Hotel Nottingham’s charity of the year 2018. The Village Hotel announced that Forever Stars has been selected by the team at their staff post-Christmas party at the hotel on 20 January.
General Manager for the Village Hotel Nottingham, Sarah Flynn, was joined by Forever Stars co-founder Richard Daniels, who along with his wife Michelle were inspired to set up the charity when their daughter Emily was stillborn in 2013.
The Nottingham-based charity funds support services for those affected by neonatal baby loss and stillbirth. In 2016 the charity set up their first bereavement suite called the Serenity Suite at the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham and in December 2017, it opened another at the City Hospital. The suites provide permanent facilities to cater for parents whose suffer baby loss.
Sarah Flynn, General Manager for the Village Hotel in Nottingham, said: “Each year, the senior team at the hotel vote on a local charity close to our hearts to represent for the upcoming year. It is an absolute pleasure to be working again in partnership with Forever Stars, following a successful campaign back in 2015 where we raised over £10,000. We have shared a lot of joy (and tears) for all the success that Richard and Michelle have had since setting up Forever Stars and are honoured to be able to represent them at a number of events and community focused fundraisers throughout 2018”.
Richard Daniels, co-founder of Forever Stars said: “Forever Stars has been fortunate to have a long-standing relationship with the Village Hotel, having had many of the team fundraise for us in the past, equally we have held the last 3 gala dinners at the venue, which have all been hugely successful. We were amazed to be offered the opportunity to be 2018 charity of the year and we hope that this partnership will not only help us raise much needed funds for our future projects, but also continue to help us raise awareness of the charity and the need to help people talk about baby
loss”.
“Having reached our 2017 goal to open the Serenity Suite at the City Hospital, in February 2018, we will be launching our next exciting and extremely ambitious project that we hope to complete by 2020, so the funds raised by the Village Hotel team will go directly to help fund this alongside helping fund our day to day support materials that we provide both Nottingham hospitals for parents and families who suffer baby loss”.
